The Flomec TP Series Flowmeters measures flows of low viscosity liquids (0.5 – 1200 gallons/min or 1.8 – 4500 litres/min) in a range of sizes. The TP Series Flowmeters are available with hazardous area ATEX and IECEx, and Intrinsically Safe (IS) certifications.

Do you need a meter that measure independent on viscosity changes?

With this type of flow meter a turbine rotates and with the help of a magnet in one of the turbine blades, a sensor can count the revolutions.

This meter is not, like a displacement meter, independent of viscosity changes - on the contrary. The pulse factor changes with viscosity (temperature dependent) as the properties of the turbine change with the changed characteristics of the liquid.

This measurement principle will also depend on a symmetrical flow profile, that is, requirements for straight piping before and after the meter.

However, under the right circumstances, turbine wheel gauges can be very accurate and are used as settling-approved gauges in the oil industry, partly because of the low pressure loss.
